Outdoor activities

Stroll northeast to arrive at the scenic Seven Shillings Beach, a stretch of soft sand, leading to sparkling ocean and boats bobbing in the harbour. Next door is Redleaf Beach and Murray Rose Pool. At this equally picturesque spot, enjoy a swim in the enclosed tidal pool, relax on one of the floating pontoons or go for a stroll along the walkway that wraps around the pool.

Adjoining the beach is Blackburn Gardens, a sweet heritage garden whose manicured lawns and unforgettable Sydney Harbour views make the perfect picnic spot. Explore the sundial, water feature and secret garden within the gardens. You’re just 15 minutes from the Sydney CBD but it feels like a world away.

Double Bay’s tree-lined streets house elegant cafes, restaurants and wine bars. Dine alfresco at Indigo, enjoy top vinos and Mediterranean share plates at Bibo Wine Bar or elevated pasta and pizza at Matteo. Get your fix of Chinese cuisine at China Diner, while Little Jean serves a gourmet brunch. There’s also a fresh produce market held every Thursday in Guilfoyle Park.

The Royal Oak Hotel is a heritage corner pub that’s been a favourite with locals for over 150 years, while The Golden Sheaf is a lively pub with a younger crowd and a great beer garden.

Getting there

A scenic ferry ride on one of the great natural harbours in the world is a memorable way to travel to Double Bay. You can hop on a ferry at Circular Quay and you’ll arrive at Double Bay Wharf in less than 20min, passing Clark Island. You can also catch a bus from the city centre or take the train to Edgecliff Station and then it’s a short stroll down New South Head Road.
