As the sun rises on Australia Day, the world-renowned Sydney Opera House sails will again be lit up with a spectacular First Nations artwork.
Australia Day in Sydney starts with a reflective moment to honour the nation’s traditional custodians. Held between 5.20am and sunrise, a First Nations artwork will be projected onto the country’s most iconic canvas.
Everyone is welcome to pause, reflect and remember by viewing this powerful display on the Sydney Opera House from vantage points around the harbour.
The projection will coincide with both the Australian National Flag and Australian Aboriginal Flag being raised on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in a symbol of unity, recognition and inclusion. Since July 2022, the Australian Aboriginal Flag now flies permanently on the bridge beside the Australian National Flag.
Dawn Reflection and much of the Sydney program is guided by First Nations representatives and features many First Nations artists and performers showcasing the richness and historical significance of culture through modern and meaningful programming.
