In 1973, the John Ogburn Club proposed that the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority consider making a space in the Old Evans Store on 36 Harrington Street, The Rocks into a gallery which would allow young and developing artists exhibit their work. It first exhibited paintings from 1973 and then in 1986 it moved to 17 Meagher Street, Chippendale.
The idea of establishing a registered artists’ cooperative was the inspiration from the artist John Ogburn.
