Ancient Greek philosophy says that true happiness can be found in life’s simple pleasures. That’s certainly true when you visit Kosta’s. The tagline of this sandwich joint (which has a sister outlet in the Sydney suburb of Rockdale) is “classic, not basic”. There should be another tagline that is “generous”, because the sandwiches served in this blue-and-white space are bulging.
Carnivores will be in heaven ordering the huge deli-meats roll that’s bursting with salami, mortadella, ham, pepperonata, provolone, lettuce and mustard; there’s also a juicy chicken schnitzel roll.
Alternatives include a fish roll with zingy tartare, lettuce and cheese; a club sandwich with roast chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and ranch sauce; and halloumi focaccia with za'atar, olives, tomato, sumac and onion. To wash it all down, be sure to order a karpouzi: fresh watermelon juice in a takeaway cup, served with hunks of haloumi cheese on top.
