Australian composer Ross Fiddes has set to music the poems from "Closing Time at the Kings Head" by British writer Karin De Novellis. The poems are dedicated to her late husband and to unpaid carers everywhere.

Based on her experience caring for her husband whilst he lived with dementia for six years, until his death in late 2022, the performance features soprano Jane Ede (Opera Australia) and baritone Chris Allan, with the composer at the piano. Described as powerful, emotive, engaging, relevant, heartrending and inspiring, this deeply moving work confronts what we all fear - watching a loved one change.

Teije Hylkema, principal cello with the Opera Australia Orchestra, will provide a fitting prelude to "Closing Time", performing the Cello Suite No.2 by J.S. Bach. (Image credit: Photolook Newcastle). Painting by Jill Fiddes.
