You’d expect any venue from multiple-award-winning fine dining chefs Federico Zanellato and Lorenzo Libino to be both high quality and out of the ordinary, and Lode Pies and Pastries absolutely delivers. The focus at Lode is on the art of viennoiserie (French pastry), superbly layered croissant-like pastries filled with ganache, cream and jam; elaborate pies inspired by both French and Australian styles; and tarts topped with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
All of the pastries are delicate and beautifully presented in a glass cabinet as if they’re precious pieces of jewelry. The shop itself is small and consists of just a few seats and a counter. If you can, get in early because the popular items often sell out.
