Kyle Hoffman’s Pink series delves into the multifaceted nature of the colour pink, portraying its emotional range from calm and sensual to exotic and even threatening. Through his analogue photography, Hoffman captures these shifting meanings, inviting reflection on the cultural and emotional power of pink.
Using the Hasselblad V system since 2014, Hoffman leverages its renowned precision to create detailed, intentional compositions. This medium format film approach mirrors the craftsmanship of pre-digital photography, where each frame is carefully considered. His preferred film stocks, such as Bergger Pancro 400 and Kodak Tri-X 400, developed with Kodak Xtol, lend a rich, painterly grain to his black and white images, emphasizing the tactile, experimental nature of his process. His colour films are developed either at home or by a local lab, underscoring his hands-on approach.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Hoffman draws inspiration from the natural world and the subtle forces that shape perception, encouraging viewers to explore how cultural and personal filters affect reality. His work has been showcased internationally, featured in exhibitions across Australia, the U.S., Bali, and the UK, and is part of various private and corporate collections, including the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Hoffman’s fine art prints, produced using Platinum Palladium and Archival Pigment processes, ensure lasting depth and quality.
